  • Antonio Molina (1928 - 1992)

ANTONIO MOLINA DE HOCES, cantaor and cancionero payo, world-wide known in the art of the flamenco cante with its own artistic name of ANTONIO MOLINA, was born in Malaga the day 9 of March of year of 1928, and died in Madrid the 18 of March of 1992. He was buried in the cemetery of the Almudena of Madrid, where thousands of followers accompanied him in his last farewell. Antonio Molina was from a very poor and humble family, he began to work at the age of ten years to help his family, in various trades, caretaker of herds, milk delivery, etc. He comes to Madrid at the age of fourteen to work and try his luck, in what is well presented, until he is presented in a contest of Radio Spain, being finalist and being hired to act in several companies.

Born into a family of farmers, Valderrama's professional career began in 1935, at the Cine Metropolitano de Madrid, and lasted more than 60 years. However, he had started in flamenco since childhood, while working in the countryside. After several attempts to escape to pursue his passion, in 1934 he met Dolores Jiménez Alcántara "La Niña de la Puebla", and obtained paternal permission to take the stage. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in a battalion of the CNT, where along with other artists in a similar situation acts for combatants and war wounded. At the end of the conflict he is already well known for his recordings, which encourages him to lead his own company.

Juanito Valderrama starred in seven films, including "El rey de la carretera" (1956), "El emigrante" (1959), "Gitana" (1965); "Of clay and gold" (1966); "The Girl from the Courtyard" (1966); "Flash 03" (1967) and "The Father Coplillas" (1968). In many of them also participated Dolores Abril. He was awarded the Medal of Merit in Labor and the Medal of Merit of Tourism.

Of its first marriage, of which nullity obtained in 1979, three children were born. Together with Dolores Abril since the second half of the 1950s, Dolores Abril is also a singer with whom she formed an artistic duo for decades, the couple married civilly in 1981.
